Big Muddy has crested at Vicksburg

Yesterday evening I loaded up the family for a trip to see a historic crest of the Mississippi River in Vicksburg.  It was nothing short of breathtaking.    According to the Corp of Engineers, the crest height was 57.1.  This is lower than the projection of 57.5, but over a foot higher than the 1927 record of 56.0.  While it was a sight to see, I hope to never see flooding like this again.  People have lost their lives, homes have been destroyed, farmers have lost their crops, and many business have been closed.  It will be weeks before the water recedes below flood stage and then it will take months just to assess the damage.  However, the people of the Delta will rebuild and eventually move on with their lives. You can be certain of that because one of the few things stronger than Ol Man River is the faith and determination of Delta residents.
