Will Eagle Lake flood?

Not if the levee holds, BUT that is a big if. The Corp of Engineers has release a good bit of information regarding the situation at Eagle Lake. Despite the information, many of the residents are rightfully concerned with flooding of homes on the lake. Here is a map of Eagle from the COE showing the water control structures.
One of my friends has a knee high watermark in his cabin from the 1973 flood and this flood is projected to be approximately 4 feet higher at the Vicksburg, Mississippi gauge. So why isn’t it going to flood 4 feet higher than his watermark? The answer is that the levee has been built up since 1973. According to this chart from the COE, as long as the levee holds at Buck Chute, Eagle Lake will not get out of the banks.
So when will we be able to return to Eagle Lake and when will the level of Eagle return to normal? This graph from the COE has a best estimate.
Hold tight guys and girls, this is going to be a rough ride. While I certainly hope the levee holds, everyone I know has gotten their belongings to higher ground or is in the process of doing so at a fast pace.
