First bloodtrail for Smoke!

Sunday evening a friend shot a doe with his bow and I had the opportunity to take my Lacy dog out for his first blood trailing attempt. It was also Smoke’s first golf cart ride at night time. When we reached the trail, Smoke ran around like a crazy little puppy until he hit the blood. Then it was nose down and tail up. He isn’t a pro yet by any means, but hopefully by the end of this deer season he will be well on his way to being proficient.
Sorry for the crappy picture, but a cell phone is the only camera we had with us.
If you have any interest in training a blood tracking dog, I would suggest reading the book Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer by John Jeanneney. I read it years ago when training a lab and it has helped me tremendously.
